Alen Deory exhibits good speed, has powerful shots and good heading ability. He is also a good dribbler and likes to play mostly on the wings. Deory gets his first name from Alan Shearer, the former England striker who was his father’s favourite footballer. He was brought up in Guwahati and encouraged to play football by his father from the age of six. He was selected during a state trial for juniors and joined the Sports Authority of India in Guwahati and played in the under-14 Subroto Cup. He joined the Tata Football Academy in 2011 but left after three months for the IMG Academy in Florida, USA, where he trained for two years. He later trained at the AIFF Academy in Goa before joining Shillong Lajong in the summer of 2014.
